Whitney Carr is a woman who never lost touch with the little girl inside her. Born in 1999 in Utah to a loving family, she spent her childhood playing make believe, doodling, traveling, and matching outfits with her sisters. Then she never stopped— although, at the present, she only occasionally does the latter.
As a child Whitney could often be heard saying the following: “Mom, I want to try <insert crazy new thing>.”
Over the years her supportive parents encouraged Whitney to try whatever she wanted: swim, soccer, band, painting, sewing, gymnastics, piano, student government, tennis, ballet, orchestra, debate, and, of course...pottery.
She fell in love with ceramics at the age of 13 in a Jr. High pottery class. Whitney sat down at a potter’s wheel, touched the clay, and became fully enthralled.
Pulling inspiration from her happy childhood Whitney strives to create art that is colorful, joyful, and whimsical. Through her playful pieces, she inspires others to find their inner child. While she is primarily a ceramic artist, Whitney dabbles in all kinds of art— from bookmaking to painting, sculpture to printmaking.
She graduated with a BFA from BYU-Idaho in April 2023 and then jumped into teaching middle school art for a year in Rigby Idaho. She is currently completing her MFA at BYU where she can often be found elbow deep in clay and exploring new materials.
